Rubbish heaps in the third world? Actually, such living conditions are not uncommon in all areas of Sydney.<br \/>\nCatholic Community Services has also been training other community agencies to support early intervention for those living in squalor. Over 680 practitioners have attended training and more training is planned.<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 350px;\" align=\"left\" valign=\"top\">Consequently, Catholic Community Services is holding the inaugural:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong> National Squalor Conference &#8211; Pathway through the Maze at the SMC Conference Centre<\/strong><\/span>,<\/p>\n<p>66 Goulburn Street, Sydney on November 5-6.<\/p>\n<p>It will be the first conference of its kind held in Australia and will focus on the following themes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> The impact of social isolation;<\/li>\n<li>Structures within society that increase the likelihood of squalor;<\/li>\n<li>The need for sustainable housing;<\/li>\n<li>The moral cost of squalor and the need for collaboration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You do not have to work within social services to attend this conference. A number of people are registering out of interest and concern for friends, family or others in their local communities.
