The Action for Peace & Development in the Philippines (APDP) invites you to a forum on –
“Gold Rush”:Australian Mining in the Philippines, At what Cost?
The forum is co-sponsored by MSC (Missionaries of the Sacred Heart)
Justice & Peace Centre
Tuesday, 18 October 2011 at 6.30 pm (to 8.30pm)
at the AMWU Building, Level 1
136 Chalmers St, Surry Hills
(Walking distance from Central Station)
Background – With gold (and copper) prices reaching new record levels, there is a rush to exploit mining opportunities in the Philippines. Four APDP members joined fact finding missions to mines in the province of Nueva Vizcaya in July. This forum will be their report back on the expansion of large scale mining that is opposed by community and church groups, as well as the Provincial governor and council. Find out why, and what you can do to support the local communities.
