Interested parties are invited to an event that the NSW Parliamentary Friends of Palestine are hosting to discuss the soon to be released book Beyond Tribal Loyalties: Personal Stories of Jewish Peace Activists.
1-3pm, Friday 15 June 2012
Waratah Room, NSW Parliament House
Macquarie St, Sydney
Beyond Tribal Loyalties is a unique collection of twenty-five personal stories of Jewish Peace Activists from Australia, Canada, Israel, the United Kingdom and the United States.
“The stories focus on the complex and intensely personal journey that Jewish activists go through to free themselves from unquestioning support of Israel’s illegal occupation of the West Bank and institutional suppression of Palestinian human rights.
At the event we will hear from the editor of the book, Avigail Abarbanel. Avigail is the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors and a former sergeant in the Israeli army, having served during Israel’s 1982 invasion of Lebanon. She is now a psychotherapist and an activist for Palestinian rights.
Also speaking will be Vivienne Porzsolt from Jews Against the Occupation and Peter Slezak from Independent Australian Jewish Voices, both of whom contributed chapters to the book.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event, courtesy of Gleebooks. Light refreshments will be served.
Feel free to circulate to anyone you think may be interested.
Numbers will be limited, so if you are interested in attending please RSVP to David.Shoebridge (at) parliament.nsw.gov.au or call 9230 3030.
Hope to see you there.
